Equity and Diversity in the Lab Workshop!

Also, GPS is giving out awards for staff and faculty, and science has a history of being under-represented. I think it’s unlikely that it’s because we don’t have good staff and faculty, so if you can think of anyone you think deserves the award, please send in your nominations through the GPS website: GPS awards page

Award for administrative and support staff: Award for Excellence in Service to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. The deadline for completed nominations for administrative and support staff is Friday, January 15, 2016.

Award for faculty members:

  • Carrie M. Derick Award for Graduate Teaching and Supervision (less than 10 years of experience)
  • David Thomson Award for Graduate Supervision and Teaching (more than 10 years of experience)

The deadline for completed nominations for faculty members is Friday, January 15, 2016.

Equity and Diversity in the Lab Workshop TODAY

  • When: Monday January 18 at 12 pm - 2 pm
  • Where: Room W4/12, Stewart Biology Building
  • What: The SEDE Office is pleased to offer an interactive workshop for students, staff and faculty in the Biology Department. “Equity and Diversity in the Lab” provides an opportunity to learn about and work through questions of equity and social inequality related to personal interactions in teaching and research settings. The session focuses on building the awareness and skills needed to establish and maintain trusting, respectful, and cooperative relationships on campus.
  • Why: Strengthen your awareness and accountability for the diverse backgrounds and experiences that make up our research community!

Food will be served courtesy of the BGSA!

Writing Night: TOMORROW

  • Every Tuesday in the BGSA Room N2/5
  • Usually from 5:30-8:00PM or until people get tired!

Welcome Back at Thomson House this Wednesday!

Hey BGSA,

Hope you’re all getting back into the swing of things! To help you along, the BGSA will be providing you with some FREE NACHOS AND BEVERAGES at Thomson House this Wednesday! Come re-connect with old friends and meet some new ones! Details below.

We have quite a few things coming up! We will be having our writing night start up again Tuesday night in the BSGA room. If you’re stuck working late or need some motivation, come work with us! Also don’t forget to come out the Equity and Diversity in the Lab Workshop next Monday. And please note that the monthly coffee hour this month that usually falls on the 2nd Wednesday of the month will be cancelled since the Welcome Back falls on that day. We will resume next month on Feb 10!
